What Zoe claims to see when I talk on the phone...which I am told is all the time!

Quesadilla! Tonight, I had the miserable task of grilling boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Fortunately, they were for these quesadillas....which made it worthwhile. I added some of the chipotle sauce from Friday and a little chorizo I had around. The results were spicy and good. Nice.

Step 5: Sow...and hope we don't have a late frost.

What a night. Seventy degree weather on a Friday can mean only one thing....low and slow grilling: Spareribs with some homemade coleslaw. I wanted to make the firecracker slaw I had for Mannight, but knowing who else would be eating it, I decided against it.

Here is a bookend to my lamb weekend. A lamb chop with grilled cauliflower. I have always been a fan of cauliflower, but this is the first time I tried it grilled. I picked up the idea from a NPR Food podcast I heard Friday morning. It wasn't too bad. A little olive oil, a little grill time and voila! Not as tender as I would have liked, but pretty good. Next time I will leave it on a little longer and possibly move it to indirect.
Lamb baby back ribs! This was new to me. I love lamb, but I have never had it preferred this way before. Absolutely delightful!
It was an indirect cook at about 275 for an hour. The ribs came off medium and were prepared over a bed of watercress and then drizzled with a chipotle vinaigrette. Not bad for $5 worth of meat!

This is not good news...Boston Beer is recalling a bunch of Sam Adams beer that was found to contain glass particles. According to Slashfood (via the Boston Globe) the bottles were from a third party distributor out of their Cincinnati plant. I found this quote interesting:
Jim Koch , founder of Boston Beer Co., said it is the company's first recall since it began in 1984.I am going to check the recycling bin right now. I can firmly state that even if I have the recalled bottles, Sam Adams still lived up to my expectations! Although, that might explain the tickle I have had in my throat all day....
"We are disappointed and disturbed by this development, and we are doing everything we can to address the situation," Koch said in a statement. "Brewing great beer is not enough. Because of these bottles supplied to us from an outside vendor, we didn't live up to our drinker's expectations."

When you get your wife a gift and she cries, you have either tanked royally or hit the nail on the head. For me, it was the later!
I scored us (Read: Zoe) tickets to go see George Michael in Las Vegas in June. To put this into perspective, twenty years ago a young English girl was hitting local nightclubs dancing away to the "infectious" beats of George Michael. At the same time, thousands of miles away, yours truly was making unbelievable fun of a car pool companion that actually had the guts to wear a George Michael concert t-shirt that he purchased at an actual George Michael concert the night before. Fast forward 20 years and the nightclub dancing girl and the guy who doesn't really like George Michael are going to see him live. Wow, how times have changed.
In order to surprise Zoe, I found a Flickr picture of the MGM Grand Arena and pasted George's face to it. On the back of the card, I wrote the words: "What you will be seeing..." It took her several seconds to decipher my riddle. She was amazed and I was stoked.
Now originally, I had planned to give her the card in the restroom of our local park. However, common sense prevailed. They close at dusk...duh!
Since finding out, Zoe has time warped back twenty years. George's music has been an integral part of her life and seeing him will truly be an amazing experience. I can't wait...to go there and eat, I hear they have really good buffets.
Well it is hard to believe, my 650 is offically one year old today. After being used at least 200 times in the last year, the beast received a good cleaning as a gift. As always, he was on his best behavior and still managed to grill a wonderful dinner. Boy, how they just grow up in front of your eyes.
I look forward to another year of grilling adventures.
